Vision Boards: How a Skeptic Turned into a Believer

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to My Goals…

Four years ago, I walked into a mastermind group meeting, and there they were – stacks of magazines, poster boards, and one eager peer touting the power of the upcoming activity. The task? Create a vision board. I’ll be honest, I chuckled. Me, cutting and pasting like a school project? But hey, why not?

Fast forward, and here I am, a total vision board convert. I mean, who knew a bit of glue, paper, and dreams could actually help make things happen? I look at my board from that first year and realize I’ve knocked off about 85% of what I pasted on there. Mind. Blown.

My 2021 Vision Board

Step 1: Raid the Magazine Rack (or Go Digital!)

Alright, your turn! First things first – grab those magazines. Flip through them and cut out anything that jumps out at you – pictures, words, that dream car, or maybe a quote that makes you go, “Yes, that’s it!” More of a tech whiz? Whip out Canva and start creating your digital masterpiece.

Step 2: Dream It, See It

Now, dream a little (or a lot). Think about everything – your career goals, family aspirations, that yoga class you’ve been meaning to join, or maybe even speaking at a big event (been there, done that, got the T-shirt!). Your board, your rules.

Step 3: The Great Assemble

Time to get crafty. Whether you’re a scissor ninja or a click-and-drag samurai, start putting those dreams onto your board. There’s something oddly satisfying about seeing your future laid out in front of you. Trust me, it’s like magic, but cooler.

Step 4: Display of Dreams

Done? Awesome! Now print it (if it’s digital) and pop it onto a foam board. Find a nice spot where you can see it every day. Mine’s right on my desk, staring back at me, reminding me of what’s to come. (I printed mine at Walgreens for less than $10)

Conclusion: The Vision Board Magic

Here’s the thing – vision boards are more than just arts and crafts. They’re visual pep talks. Since that first, slightly skeptical attempt, my vision board has become my yearly ritual. It’s fun, it’s inspiring, and honestly, it’s a bit like telling the universe, “Hey, watch what I can do.”

So, why not give it a try? Dive into your magazines, let your imagination run wild, and start pasting your way to your dreams. Who knows, you might just surprise yourself!
